Could we change our habits?

It’s amazing to think about how much we all have gone through in just one year, and so, because you are a powerful and strong individual, this first blog is dedicated to you. My commitment to you is to provide you with information that will leave you thinking about how we can continue to make a difference in this world.

I wanted to create products to nourish your body and soul while being kind to the environment. As much as I can help it, these products will not be packaged in plastic as I am committed to reduce the plastic every single day and I hope that by the time you finished reading this blog I can obtain your commitment to do the same.

So many articles have already been written about the damage that plastic waste is doing to our planet, but, at the same time, plastic has created a sense of convenience for us. We’ve habits in our day-to-day lives where, without even consciously thinking about it, we reach for plastic. All sorts of products come in plastic, and it’s easy to take for granted that, if something is wrapped in plastic, that’s the way it has to be. But before we know it, plastic waste is ending up in places like in our oceans, forests, streets, etc., polluting eco-systems everywhere.

One important concept to briefly discuss is “microplastics.” What are microplastics?

Microplastics are small plastic pieces fewer than five millimeters long that can be harmful to our oceans and aquatic life. Microplastics come from a variety of sources, including from larger plastic debris that degrades into smaller and smaller pieces.

Examples of primary microplastics include microbeads found in personal care products, plastic pellets (or nurdles) used in industrial manufacturing, and plastic fibers used in synthetic textiles (e.g., nylon).

Microbeads are tiny pieces of polyethylene plastic added to health and beauty products, such as some cleansers and toothpastes. (NOAA)

So, I invite you reflect on how to change the way we think and consume, to create a healthier and more sustainable world where plastic is no longer the protagonist of our daily consumption. Let’s try to change our habits one at the time. I know it’s possible. Are you in? Let us know in the comments.
